Witch Hour Madness
Catching Meredith’s hand, Malcolm tugged her away from the door that would lead them back to the party. Lifting his finger to his lips, he shushed her and tugged her deeper down the hallway. Curious, she followed. This was one of the many reasons she loved him. He seemed to understand without words, when she needed to breathe.
Pausing by one door, Malcolm listened carefully, but pulled away. Continuing down the hall, he glanced back at her and said, “Logan Redgrove is the reason I moved down into Magic Town five years ago.”
Hearing that made her heart flutter, but Meredith knew it wasn’t true. When Malcolm stopped at another door and leaned in close to listen she whispered, “No he isn’t. You wanted to get away from your family.”
Crossing the hall to the next door, Malcolm shook his head and said, “No. I hated the idea of attending these events knowing you’d be at his side. Logan never deserved you. No one did.”
Malcolm paused a moment longer at the door, his hand still holding her at his side. Meredith reached out with her free hand and cupped his cheek. Pulling him away from the mystery door and leaning in, she said, “That’s sweet.”
A smile graced his lips and Malcolm leaned in. His forehead touched hers. “And true.” Then his lips were on hers and the world melted away. As the soft velvet of his tongue swirled against hers she heard the door open and then he was moving her from the poorly lit hallway into the room.
This story caught me off guard. Malcolm's plans were a surprise when the story started and everything leading up to the end had me on pins and needles. Meredith stood strong and proud as she's settled into her role as family head. I'll never forget crying at the end. The tears continued through the writing or Knot in Destiny.
