CampNaNoWriMo and Interactive Romance

http://files.content.campnanowrimo.org/camp/files/2015/03/Camp-Participant-2015-Twitter-Profile.jpgWe're heading into the last stretch of CampNaNoWriMo and I'm excited to say I expect to finish up my story a little early. This camp has been exciting and offered a challenge I'm not accustom to. While I've done the challenge before it was always with a story style I'm use to writing, but this time I took on something different.

Boy oh boy, this interactive writing can get confusing. The outline I put together with all it's branches went flying out the window pretty quickly and it drug me along for the ride. My characters have expanded the story in a way I didn't expect considering that each branch is a short story. Details have begun revealing themselves through the choices that connected them all to make it a fuller read. I can't wait to finish the draft and jump into a first read.

The challenge of interactive writing I've found is more about balancing the story and making each branch interesting. While each branch reveals something a little different than the others, they all need to fit into a complete story. I've been pushing off writing the endings until I've complete the main story arcs. Part of me wants the surprise of what the leading lady's choices lead to.

The second challenge of this story is the topic. I normally like paranormal, sci-fi and fantasy writing. This one is way off the mark. It's a historical story set in the early 1900's and our leading lady is off on an adventure to find the Golden Tomb of the Golden King (King connected to El Dorado) in South America. So far she's encountered a number of issues, from giant snakes to opportunistic thieves.

I am still fighting the urge to include a curse or some other fantastic element to it. I've talked myself out of it for the moment, but all is fair in Love and Editing!

Peace and Love!

Paranormal Romance Blog Hop: Give Us Your Best Excerpt!

It's a paranormal romance hop! That means you get to hop from blog to blog reading some great excerpts from some awesome authors. You might even find a giveaway or two.
This is the Paranormal Romance Blog Hop: Give Us Your Best Excerpt and it's being hosted by  Jolie Du Pre over at Precious Monsters.

This is a bit from Just Beyond Daybreak, one of my WIP. Our leading man and lady are both powerful witches from wealthy, well-known and respected families. The two different families have been rivals for centuries and this competition is now passed down to the new generation.

Malcolm was surprised she didn’t put up a fight as he drug her further down the sidewalk, away from the fire, and into an alleyway several buildings away. “We need to talk,” he said finally as they stood in the shadows of the buildings.

Meredith jerked her arm away and propped her hand on her hip. “I told you someone stole the Dragon’s Eye,” she repeated for what Malcolm thought was the tenth time. He moved his hands up and massaged his temples with his fingers, trying to work through the accusing anger that was running through him. “What the hell happened, Malcolm?”

The dominating tone in her voice made that anger snap and he grabbed her again, spinning her around and pressing her back to the dingy brick wall. She tried to lash out at him with her free hand, but he quickly pinned that one along with the other. Taking it a step further, Malcolm leaned his full body into her. Bowing his face so close to hers that he could see shock and a touch of fear in her eye. “Listen here, Miss Blackburn. I don’t give a damn about your Dragon’s Eye, but I do care about my spell books and one of them is missing. What do you have to do with that?” Malcolm snarled.

Her breathing was heavy, and every breath pressed her breasts against his chest. Any other time he would not risk this closeness, but anger and determination was stronger than lust alone. He watched her pink tongue slip over her lush bottom lip and waited for her answer. It seemed to take her a second to gather words, but when she did answer him he was surprised that her voice was unwavering. “I told you it might happen. I warned you, but you didn’t give a damn then.”

He opened his eyes and saw pretty blue hues staring back at him.

http://cobblestone-press.com/catalog/books/firehunt.htmIn that instant, he thought it might be possible that he might be blushing, but Edmund never blushed when he was caught red-handed. Instead, he smiled down at her and said, “Hi.”

A brilliant, heart-stopping smile spread across her face. “Hi,” she whispered. Her back arched and she let out a moan as he switched from kneading to light scratches. “Mmm. That feels good.”

“Yeah?” he teased as he moved the scratches to her side. The slight tickle caused another sexy wiggle that brought her closer to him. With her hip brushing his leg, Edmund switched back to gentle caresses. “Did you sleep okay?” he asked before leaning in to kiss the exposed back of her neck.

Julia froze under his lips. He placed several more kisses along her neck before she asked, “Eddie, what are you doing?”

“I’m kissing you,” he answered before dropping a kiss below her ear. He pulled back just a fraction and watched her face. “Is that okay?”

She wasn’t smiling anymore and while he could see the goosebumps along her exposed arms, he wasn’t sure how she was going to answer. He did know that his heart had nearly stopped as he waited for her reply.

About Fire Hunt

Julia was dedicated to the cause, even though she was marked a traitor by her own kind for becoming a Federal Witch Hunter. When her partner captures a man from her past, Julia must make a choice: Let the witch be tortured, or blow her cover and go with plan B.

All Edmund wanted was to help the magical community and escape his extremist lifestyle. Instead he was setup and captured by Witch Hunters. Cut off from his magic and held prisoner, Edmund didn’t think things could get worse. Then Julia struts into his holding cell with an escape plan.
