Chasing High Noon:

“Why don’t you come out and enjoy the coffee on the couch. A few minutes away can’t hurt,” Malcolm offered, reaching out and tickling her spine with his fingertips.
Even as Meredith wiggled a little under his touch, she let out a huff and said, “Yeah. I lost hours’ worth of work last night because ‘a few minutes away can’t hurt’, remember?”
Leaning over and nuzzling her neck, Malcolm smirked. “I remember and I wouldn’t turn down a repeat.”
“I still have too much to do, Malcolm,” Meredith said with a sigh.
Smoothing his palm over her side, Malcolm glanced over her shoulder. He was careful to ignore the drawings and scribbles as he said, “Enjoy your coffee in the living room. The couch is way more comfortable than the floor.”
Giving a little shake of her head, Meredith answered, “I’ve got a couch in here.”
The study was like a dark cave holding her captive, but there was no way Malcolm was going to say that. Instead, he pressed a quick kiss against her shoulder and said, “The light's better in there.” Meredith turned and gave him a pointed look. “Innocent coffee. I won’t take you away from all this for more than one cup of coffee, I swear.”
Malcolm stared into her skeptical brown eyes and could feel his heart rate start to pick up. Her plump lips were set in a hard line and yet still looked incredibly kissable. When he saw her sweet mouth turn up into a small smile, he knew he’d won. “One coffee, but then I have to get back to this.”
Nodding, Malcolm was quick to give her an innocent kiss on the cheek and say, “I’ve got to take off after I finish my coffee, anyway.” Even though he hated leaving her, after his coffee was gone he'd have to do just that. The council had requested his presence and that was a summons no witch should ignore.

Caught by Nightfall

Keeping her eyes trained on the spot beyond the shelves, Meredith retreated from the map and tomes she’d come looking for. Malcolm was only a few turns away, but the path was dark and the tiny floating light that followed her did little to push away the edge of fear. Taking a slow, deep breath, she let out a whisper. Malcolm.” It was both a warning and a plea for help.

As his name left Meredith’s lips, the scar on her shoulder prickled, pulling at their invisible connection. She could feel her magic rushing the word through the darkness and racing towards its intended. Backing around a corner, she saw the dark mass start to swirl with a dense red mist. Her heart nearly stopped at the sight. Chills raced through her, causing tickling goosebumps to rise.

With a thought, Meredith put out the light of her orb and stared into the brightening void. Her fear began to boil over as the red mist tightened and thickened. A human body was taking solid shape and a worried shout started to work its way up her throat. Before his name could erupt from her lips, Malcolm clasped his hand over her mouth. Shh. I got you,” he whispered in her ear, and instantly some of the terror drained away.

Carefully pulling his hand away, Malcolm glanced around the corner and Meredith watched his eyes go a little wide. Then he took her hand and started pulling her deeper into the dark hallway he’d appeared from. We got to get out of here,” he said quietly.

No shit,” Meredith hissed as they made a turn. The darkness was so thick that she couldn’t really see him, but she knew he was focused on getting as far from that red mass as possible. She wasn’t sure how Malcolm was maneuvering through the hall without his own light, but she was thankful for his lead.

MIdWeek Tease: Just Beyond Daybreak

http://midweektease.blogspot.com/Let's start the celebration leading up to the release of Witching Hour Madness. This week's MidWeek Tease is brought to you from Just Beyond Daybreak.

This is the first book in the Star Crossed Series. Let's spy on Meredith and Malcolm for their first kiss!

Just Beyond Baybreak

Just as the throbbing caught her attention again, Malcolm said, “Nearly done. Are you okay?”
She nodded and answered, “Fine.” Slowly Meredith turned her head to catch a glance at the brand on her shoulder. She could just make out the upper crust of the circle. Moving her eyes up to look at Malcolm, Meredith wondered when she was supposed to get this extra magic and if she would even feel its arrival. “So it’s working?”
Malcolm looked up from a cloth he was using to wipe the chopstick. “Almost,” he said, setting the silver stick down. “Just one more thing to do.”
“Well, what’s that?” Meredith asked, turning her head back around. She was contemplating adjusting the camisole strap to cover the peek-a-boo of her bra when she was surprised by his hand taking hold of her unbranded shoulder and pulling her backwards. Meredith fell back and a sharp pain ran through her as his free hand caught the brand. He moved the other hand to cup her chin and tilted her head back. Then he was kissing her. For an instant it felt like Malcolm was stealing her very soul through his lips and she didn’t care. Instead she found herself wantonly kissing him back.
She watched his half-closed eyes from the odd sideways, almost upside down, angle. This was not a gentle, innocent kiss. This was a lust-provoking tease of lips and tongue. The feel of his palm pressed against the raw brand on her shoulder was scorching, but Meredith couldn’t call it pain. A tingle of magic seemed to pass from his hand into her as their lips devoured each other.
Realization that this was the connection Malcolm needed to link his power to hers set in, and some of the passion that had flared to life died away. As his lips slowly pulled away from her own, Meredith tried to mask her emotions. She fought back the urge to lean up for another kiss as she watched the tip of his tongue swipe over his top lip. “So, now it’s working?” Meredith asked, forcing herself to maintain eye contact with him.

What a kiss! With that touch their story deepens into a forbidden love.
