2014 Wrap Up

It's that time again. We're bidding a fond farewell to 2014 and welcoming in a new year. With traditions for New Year's Resolutions and the New Year's kiss I couldn't help myself from looking back at this year and thinking about all the things I've accomplished and all the things I didn't quite get done.

I'm sorry to say I wasn't able to meet Parajunkee's Shifter Reading Challenge. I didn't manage to read and review five shifter books, but that was only half the total I should have read to complete the challenge. If you'd like to see some of the great reviews other readers put out on shifter fiction this year hop on over to Parajunkee's Shifter Challenge page.

If you missed my shifter review jump on back through the blog and check 'em out!

As the second novel in the Saving Grace Saga (I even named the series :) Fox Hunt was an important publication for me. It meant I got to jump ahead with the third and final book in the set, Fire Hunt. I'm finishing up the final draft of Fire Hunt as I type this, and I'm feeling pretty good about how it's going. I know first thing in 2015 I'm going to be revising and editing, but that can be fun too.

CampNaNoWriMo wasn't too much of a success for me. This past July I attempted to write 30k words for my sci-fi romance novel, but barely hit the 10k mark. It was a sad moment realizing the story just wasn't ready to progress to a full time writing project. While I know a novel written in such a short time will need a lot of work, I was looking forward to handling those characters again. They are all still in my heart and from time to time I still jot down notes and short scenes.

http://mysexysaturday.blogspot.com/
A happy thought for the end of the year is that I managed to take a step further into the world of marketing. I wasn't very comfortable marketing my own stuff when Witch Hunt was published, but finding the MySexySaturday blog hop and some other great blogs to work with I really enjoyed it in this past year. A shout out to Sharon Clare at Romance and Beyond for the chance to interview my character, Mike. That was so much fun and offered a great deal of inspiration.

It doesn't seem like a lot, but that was my 2014. My plans for 2015 are still forming, but I know if nothing else it's going to be a year filled with adventure packed romance and great new experiences.

Happy New Year and as always Peace and Love

A Sexy Morning

Time for My Sexy Saturday blog hop again. For those readers new to this hop, writers post excerpt of 7 words, 7 sentences or 7 paragraphs based on the weekly theme or something the readers would just love.  This week the theme was A Sexy Morning and I've picked a morning scene from my first novel, Witch Hunt.

"She felt so warm and inviting under him. Aidan had never known a woman who could make him want her so much. Rei was practically quivering beneath him, and he felt a bristle of pride that she would only ever feel it for him. Aidan felt Rei’s fingers drag down his back and grip his butt in a tight hold. He was about to adjust their position so that he could bury himself into her when an odd sound reached his ears.

Aidan stiffened above Rei and lifted up from her neck. The sound of a car door slamming closed outside made his eyes shift to the bedroom door."

My Sexy Saturdeay : A Sexy First

It's that time again. I try to do one of these at least once a month, because they're just so much fun. This My Sexy Saturday theme is A Sexy First. I've chosen seven sexy sentences from the first face to face meeting between Rei and Aidan from my first novel, Witch Hunt, for this one. I hope you enjoy and remember to to check out of the other great blogs for more sexy excepts.

Witch Hunt Except:

When he found her scent again, he burst forward, slamming through the underbrush and found his wolf self thrust directly in her path.

Standing in front of her, Aidan felt a need to relieve some of her fear. He felt the wolf withdrawal as he transformed back into his human self. Once he was human again, he had been about to speak when he was suddenly captivated by the sight of her. Kneeling in front of him, he saw a young woman now filled with shock more than fear.

As Aidan had just begun admiring the bright moonglow of her skin, the Wild Hunt had chased her down and slammed into her. Wild energy ricocheted itself throughout her entire body and drove her down to one knee.

That's it for now. I hope you enjoyed. You can get you're own copy of Witch Hunt at:

Blade on the Hunt by Lauren Dane

9781426898983-COV
"When you awaken, you will have to find her yourself. Or she will find you."

These were the words given to Rowan Summerwaite by the Goddess as Rowan lay clinging to life. Broken—but not defeated—by the ancient Vampire Enyo.

After weeks of mandatory down time, a recharged and vengeance-fueled Rowan heads out from her father's Keep, leading a team of some of the most terrifying beings on earth with one goal in mind—track and eliminate the Vampire who attacked her.

But as the team moves across Europe and is hit with wave after wave of attacks, the tensions between Clive Stewart—the haughty, stylish Scion of North America whom Rowan grew even closer to during her recovery—and a rival Vampire ramp up. Befuddled, confused, flattered and annoyed, Rowan's the woman in the middle. She's not used to being claimed in a way that's not about how strong her sword arm is or who raised her. Clive Stewart is everything she shouldn't want in a man—he's bossy, he's a Vampire, and he considers her his—but she's past denying how it makes her feel that he fights for her the way he does. She's past denying she's in love.

In contrast to the uneven footing falling in love has given her, Rowan is utterly certain she will locate her quarry. She's stronger and more powerful than she's ever been after the tests and bloody lessons of the last years. Her connection with the Goddess is seamless and the light of her mission burns from within. And she'll need all the help she can get because it's not very long before Rowan and her team realize the threat is far greater than one crazy old Vampire. There's a war brewing and Rowan will fight it to the death. It's what she was born to do.

Coming Nov. 17th

Witches' Waves by Teresa Noelle Roberts

22647226The ocean is on their side. But the fight is on land—and it’s about to get dirty.

Duals and Donovans: The Different, Book 4

Long held captive as the Agency’s secret weapon—a blind witch with visions—Meaghan has come to a line she refuses to cross. Rather than betray the infant “child of five bloods” to the Agency’s scientists, she chooses death. Except when she throws herself into the ocean, she doesn’t die. Her repressed water magic comes to life.

When the sodden, delirious witch drifts into Kyle’s arms, his otter dual instincts tell him to get her to the Donovans as fast as possible. Even though one particular surfer-dude Donovan broke his heart.

Declan Donovan continually kicks himself for pushing Kyle away, but his touchy combination of water, earth and lightning magic is too volatile, and Kyle wanted more than Deck was ready to give.

When they come together to help Meaghan control her new magic, it leads the Agency straight to the child of five bloods. They’ll have to dive head-first into total trust—in their magics, in themselves and in each other—to save the child and stop the Agency once and for all.

Warning: Contains an oceanful of sex between an ethereal blind heroine who swears like a pissed-off Marine, an overly serious otter shifter, a would-be beach bum who may be descended from a Norse god, in permutations as fluid as the sea – and themes of abuse and recovery.
Coming Nov. 18th from Samhain Publishing

They’ve managed to cast a drunken spell that brings a supernatural secret society already in political unrest – the Netherworld – to their doorsteps. One faction of the Netherworld, the warlocks, want them dead since the magic they’ve conjured has branded them as the warlocks' enemy number one: witches.

Gabriel Azarov is a werewolf and owner of the bar that Lila and her friends frequent. He has been bringing Lila drinks for years and has always harbored secret feelings for her, feelings he’s never acted upon since Lila’s human status keeps her strictly hands-off. Only now their close quarters make it impossible to stay away from her. Or keep his hands to himself.

Works in Progress

As many writers know November is the official Nation Novel Writing Month. I took part in camp NaNoWriMo earlier this year, but was unable to reach my goal of 30k words. In fact I was only able to write around 10k words on my sci-fi romance. :( But we move on and keep at it. This year I won't be participating in the official NaNoWriMo. Why?

I've already started a story. Fire Hunt is already underway and rolling along. I'd hate to set it aside for a month to work on something else and starting NaNoWriMo with Fire Hunt wouldn't seem fair as I already had a head start.

What I am doing instead is setting a goal for myself. Because I do have to work at my "real job" through out this month I can't devote all my time to my fiction, but I am challenging myself to finish Fire Hunt, or at least be in the last chapter, by the end of this year. I'm a little over 30% now so I'm hoping none of the characters give me a hard time with this one. (Stares at Dilly from Fox Hunt)

In the spirit of NaNoWriMo I have installed a word counter on the blog. He looks a bit like this:

Isn't he cute. I found this lovely thing at Writertopia. They have a more traditional word counter too, but I couldn't pass this guy up. He'll also show different moods. I'm hoping he stays in the "writing" mood most often.

That's it for today. Make sure to come by for the Full Moon Releases!

Howloween Blog Hop

Displaying Blog Hop Button.4.jpg
Happy Halloween! I'm taking a few moments from my Samhain celebrations to bring you a post for the Howloween Blog Hop. To get your howl on and hop from blog to blog exploring other great authors and their posts just follow the links below. You can also enter to win a $50 amazon gift card from the blog hop host, Romance Blog Hops. Giveaways and such are listed below the post.

As for the post today I was thinking I'd share a tidbit from one of my stories, but they are surprisingly void of Halloween topics. Strange considering I write on many paranormal topics. So here's a run down of why Halloween is the best time of year to play with the beasties.

Halloween Beastie Fun
  1. Halloween is a free for all. Kind of. It's a lot like Vegas. What happens on Halloween should stay with Halloween night. So long as it isn't illegal.
  2.  No matter what flavor of paranormal you love they all come out at Halloween. I outgrew vampire love years ago, but a cute vamp walking around might re-spark my interest. (As long as they don't sparkle.)
  3. Halloween is the time when the paranormal is at its most powerful, depending on which myth you go by, and that's sure to equal some extra fun and adventure with your chosen beastie.
  4. Rather have the monster slayer or the demon hunter. I'm sure one or more of them might be roaming around hunting down our lovely beasties.
Well there you have four great reasons to go out and enjoy a romp with the beasties this year. Before heading out make sure to stop by the other great blogs for giveaways and more Halloween treats!

Halloween With The Boys

To celebrate Samhain in a special way I decided to sit down with the boys from the Saving Grace Saga and ask them a few question about Halloween. Tonight we have Aidan and Mike. Our third gust hasn’t shown up yet, but maybe he’ll be in a little later.

Halloween Night
Mike and Aidan are relaxed on the couch with a couple of beers enjoying some friendly banter when I interrupt them. “Okay fellas, what’s your favorite thing about Halloween?”

With a laugh Mike answers “The tricks. Dilly and I always get into a prank war this time of year.”
Aidan speaks up, “This time of year? You two are always going at it.” He turns to look at me and goes on, “I found a fake spider in a pot of chili last spring. Dilly figured Mike would the first one to dig in.”

“Really? A fake spider? Anyway, what’s your favorite thing about Halloween, Aidan?”

“I love the scary movies,” he answers with a grin. “The really scary parts make Rei jump right into my lap.”

I can’t help but laugh at this a bit as I ask the next question. “So what costume would you guys pick out for your ladies if you had the choice?”

Aidan’s the first to answer. “Easy. Little Red Riding Hood.” He tips his beer towards Mike and adds, “I could chase her through the forest to Grandma’s any night.”
Mike bursts out with his own laugh and answers, “I had an idea, but I like his better.”

Just as I’m about to ask the final question the door bursts open and a tall, lean man rushes in. He closes the door quickly behind him and he appears to be out of breath. “Edmund! Glad you could join us just in time for the last question.”

Edmund struts over to an empty chair and flops down. He takes the beer Mike is offering and tips it towards me, signaling he’s ready. “Alright guys, finally what scares you the most?”

Mike and Aidan both look a little taken aback by the question. Finally Mike says, “Loosing Dilly.”

Aidan nods in agreement and answers, “I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to Rei or our Aiyana.”

I look over to Edmund who is drinking his beer rather quickly. “Our readers want to know, Edmund.”

He holds up his finger as he finishes the beer and lets out a satisfied sigh. “My greatest fear?” There’s a loud bang on the door behind him and he turns quickly before jumping from his seat. “That she’s going to catch me,” he answers, running across the room towards the other exit.

The two hunks on the couch and I watch as one door slams open and Edmund escapes through the second. A pretty blonde races through the room, ignoring us completely.

And that concludes our Halloween interview. Hope you enjoyed!

P.S. Don't forget get to stop by on Halloween for the Howloween Blog Hop! There will be treats a plenty in store.

Review: Wolf's Haven by Ambrielle Kirk

I found a freebee and wanted to read it. I love shifter romance novels and tend to take a chance when I find a free one. I finished this book in a day and a half so it's a quick read. Here's my take:

Wolf's Haven by Ambrielle Kirk

Blurb-

16068821"Tamara would risk her life to gain freedom. She's finally built up the courage to escape from a world of abuse by the hands of the man who promised her the world. One night she makes a break for it, but her plans backfire. She begins to believe that she was never meant to be happy. When all hope of freedom fades, she stumbles across a wolf that brings her to safety. She learns to trust the wolf, but has yet to trust the man.

Devin, potential future leader of the Caedmon Pack, returns to the foothills of his Virginia home after five long years as a lone wolf. Rivals within the circle challenge him and threaten to strip him of his true birthright. Being bound to lead the pack was not something Devin had planned for his life, but letting his people fall prey to turmoil under the rule of his cousin Darius is out of the question. The night of Devin’s rise to Alpha leader is approaching. Despite opposition, he’s gained an impressive following. That is until he brings a human among the pack."

I'm a big fan of empowering women, especially abused women, and the first few chapters of this book really touched that mark for me. It starts with Tamara desperate to get away from an abusive dick. In her attempt to escape she jumps from a window and is found/rescued by a wolf. The wolf turns out to be a man, Devin. Through some trail and error she learns to trust men again, somehow.

I won't lie. This story left me wanting and not in the good way. There was a strong plot line, with some nice twists here and there, but altogether it could have been a little stronger. Also the character development was less than engaging. I think going a little more in depth with a side character or two would have helped a bit and developing both the main character some would have helped too.

The romance side of the story was also lacking. I understand the mated/bonded idea, but it's hard for me to wrap my head around it within this storyline. Tamara was abused and the writer does show moments when that abuse affects her mentally, but I really can't see Tamara jumping into a sexual relationship with Devin so fast.

I don't like writing a bad review, but I will say that I'm going to give the next book, Wolf's Promise, a try. Maybe characters are developed a little further and more of the story opens up.

Until next time, happy reading and peace!

My Sexy Saturday: Another Sexy Moment

It's a Blog Hop so make sure you follow the links below to read some great bit from other awesome authors along the way.

It's time for another My Sexy Saturday blog hop. This week authors were asked to share another sexy moment between their characters. I've taken a short bit from my work in progress, Fire Hunt, which is the last story in the Saving Grace Saga. Here's your first glimpse at Edmund and Julia as they take refuge in a dark nook in the underground of Baltimore.

Fire Hunt:

Edmund took hold of her elbow and pulled her deeper into the darkness. “Just be quiet,” he hissed. The nook was too small to allow for any space between them, and the inadvertent press of her backside against him made his mind start to drift. Edmund could think of a lot better things they could be doing instead of lurking through old, nearly forgotten tunnels.

The sweet strawberry scent of her hair filled his senses, and he had to keep himself from leaning down to nuzzle her neck. In that moment Edmund couldn’t remember the last time he’d been with a woman, but it didn’t matter. The only woman he was worried about hadn’t slept with him in more than ten years and her delicate figure was right in front of him.

The rapid swelling in his pants was just more proof that he wouldn’t mind another roll in the sheets with Julia, and within seconds she noticed it. She squirmed to make room between them, but that didn’t help at all. In fact, Edmund felt an urgent jolt of need shoot through him. “What the hell?” she demanded in a harsh whisper.

“Just stay still,” he ground out, biting the tender flesh of his cheek. “And be quiet.” Edmund heard her mumble something, but he was too busy trying not to think about her to catch it. Think about what’ll happen if you get caught. The torture and the most likely painful death. You don’t have time for this.

His inner argument was getting him nowhere, especially when Julia twisted around to face him. Edmund could barely make out her soft features in the darkness, but he still had to squeeze his eyes tight to keep from staring. “This isn’t exactly the place, Eddie,” she said, leaning back towards the ancient brick wall. Edmund managed not to follow the heat that retreated from him, but he knew it was only because she couldn’t move that far away.

“Jul, please, just be quiet and still,” he begged her through clinched teeth. She was still close enough that he felt her start to tremble slightly. It wasn’t an altogether bad feeling. He just hoped it wasn’t fear that was doing it to her.

Edmund took a deep breath and tried to regain a better form of control; Control that was instantly shattered when a loud crash from down the tunnel sent Julia jumping straight into him. His arm wrapped around her waist protectively, and before he realized it he had captured her lips in a hungry, breath stealing kiss.

And that's it for now. Wondering what these two are hiding from? Maybe you'd like to know more about their history. All in good time so skip on over to the other blogs in the hope for now and happy reading.
