Darkest Judgment by Candice Glimer

Darkest JudgmentMythical Knights, Book 3

An Immortal Templar Knight, Sir Liam McCall is mandated to protect mortals from the mythicals of the world. Simple. Basic. He's been doing it for seven hundred years, never once playing favorites.

Leeza Hunter changed all that. As a child, her accident-prone ways compelled him to keep her safe, if only from a distance. Now that she's a woman, temptation is coming dangerously close to overriding his logic.

When Leeza meets the tall, hunky glassblower at the shop where she works, she's immediately intrigued. After all, who goes by "sir" anything, anymore? Yet some crystalline connection tells her to trust him. And that trust opens up a whole other world full of dragons, vampires, and all sorts of things that go bump in the unseen night.

But in this world, even an immortal Templar Knight must choose a path. And as the mythicals get more aggressive, Liam could have no choice but to wield his judgment over life and death. Even when it comes to the woman he loves.

TempestTempest by Cari Z

Colm Weathercliff is a simple fisherman with an uncanny—some might say preternatural—knack for his trade. He thought leaving his small village to take his father’s ashes to the capital city of Caithmor for a proper burial would be the grandest adventure of his life.

At first, all his hopes seem to be fulfilled. He finds a home where he’s accepted without question, the freedom to use his talent to its fullest effect, and love with Nichol, a man with a longing for the sea as powerful as Colm’s.

But Caithmor holds as many dangers as it does attractions. Colm’s greatest secret turns out to be a dark revelation that gets him and his family shunned—and changes everything he thought he knew about himself.

The truth—about his parentage, his gift, even his physical form—could poison his chance for love. And doom both him and Nichol to a gruesome, inescapable fate.

Our Sexy Vacation

It's that time again. The My Sexy Saturday post theme is Our Sexy Vacation and I've pulled seven paragraphs from my WIP, Sweeter Dreams. Karlee has been pining for a vacation for a while now, but things keep popping up. So her dreams create a tropical vacation for her. Enjoy!
 Sweeter Dreams

The salty male scent brought a small smile to her lips before the fact that a man was cuddling with her struck her. Panic flooded in as she opened her eyes and shoved away from the stranger.
It was the crazy man beside her. Deep chestnut brown eyes were staring back at her and before she could scream Karlee took in the full view of the rest of him. A small smile graced his slightly pouty lips and his light brown hair was messed, as if he had been sleeping beside her the entire time. Below the sexy look was an equally sexy chest. Across his bare skin a sprinkling of hair caught her attention and led her eyes lower to the edge of the blanket that rested across his hip. The happy trail continued under the floral pattern of the covers and was a clear sign that he was sans clothing from top to bottom.

It was the crazy man and he was completely nude beside her. She was just starting to freak out when the sound of waves registered. Looking away from the beautiful man, Karlee looked for the water. Instead of her bedroom walls a sprawling beach cast in moonlight surrounded her. Ocean waves were crashing against the shore line and the only thing on the beach besides sand and tropical trees was her bed. “What’s going on?”

“You’re dreaming,” Court said, shifting beside her. When she turned to look at him again he was sitting up against the headboard, the blanket draped a little higher to cover everything below his belly button. His small smile had turned into a smirk. “It’s all in your head.”

Chirping rang out from somewhere behind her and Karlee swept her eyes over the water. The moon was high over the horizon and the rippling waves reflected the light, lighting up the landscape. “A dream?” she mumbled with a smile. Fear and worry were quickly replaced by a feeling of giddiness. Throwing the blanket off, Karlee jumped off the bed and wiggled her toes in the sand. The breeze caressed her body and a bit of her joy flickered as she realized she too was naked.

Covering her breasts, she threw a look over her shoulder at Court. When he rolled his head against the headboard Karlee swore she saw a twinkle in his eyes. “Your dream. Dream up clothing,” he suggested.

Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, Karlee figured seeing herself in her favorite nightgown might make it appear. It was her dream after all. It didn’t take long for the silky softness of the gown to slip over her skin. A single glance proved that she had summed the white billowy gown into place and Karlee threw her hands out and twirled. The salty air curled around her like a welcoming hug and Karlee felt all the stress from her long day melt away as the stars spun above her.

That's it for this week. I hope it intrigued and don't forget to hop on over to the other blogs for more great snippets!

Werewolves, Shapeshifters and Skinwalkers

Why we love them.

The image of the werewolf, shapeshifter and other human animal transformers has gone through a lot of changes over the years. The silver screen saw a deformed man covered in fur brandishing some hellish fangs. This was the wolf man and the moment America started their love hate relationship. That gritty black and white image soon changed into an amazing shapeshift with An American Werewolf in London and our love story thickened, but why?

Shapeshifters have been a part of myth and legend for thousands of years. Europe had the werewolves who were hunted down as beasts, witches and just plain ol' crazies. Native Americans had skinwalkers, people so in touch with their totems that they took on animalistic tendencies. Even the tribes of Africa had hyenas that could speak in human tongue to separate a person from the safety of the crowd.

So why the sudden love of the weres? Most accounts from history say humans should fear the beast, but I think that's where our love comes from.

While werewolves and other shifters do pose a very real threat as a wild animal they also have a human side. A human side can love like a human, feel pain like a human and regret just like a human. Control the beast and you have a human.

Mankind has also opened up to the idea that animals themselves feel. Love, sadness, anger and even grief have been witnessed by not just researchers but average people. Maybe the beast isn't the monster in the dark we were warned about.

In my Saving Grace Saga werewolves are key characters who play the heroes. Threatened by the Federal government my werewolves are often the underdogs who fight under the shoe of "the man" and in many other romance stories readers can see the discrimination that shifters face. As a community and as readers people love to see the underdog come out on top.

Add in the spice of strong alpha instincts and you have a character many readers can fall in love with. Readers love a character that is confident and while they may have obstacles trying to hold them back a shifter with wild instinct can pull off a confidence that, when well written, doesn't appear arrogant.

That's just my take on why so many people love the shapeshifter, whether bound by the moon, a curse or just emotion.
